Hey everyone! I’m excited to bring you a blog post from my first wedding of 2014! This past weekend was one of the warmest in a long time so it was great timing. I was hoping for a little snow in the evening for some nice outdoor-street light-snowy shots, but for once, we didn’t get snow in WNY. Even though we didn’t get the snow, it was really a great day!

IMG_2492I met Abdias when I shot his brother Elias’s wedding back in 2010. Here’s one of my favorite shots from Elias & Edly’s wedding. When Abdias and Carolyn got engaged, they contacted me and set everything up. We got together back in April to shoot their engagement session in downtown Rochester. I’ll post a few photos from that below as well.

The day started out pretty normal with the girls getting ready, and then the ceremony, with the bridal party shoot following. For the reception, Abdias and Carolyn had things planned a little differently. Instead of the focus being on the dance floor, it was on the family just being able to celebrate together. While some things were similar like the dinner, toast, and cake cutting, other things were let go of like the dancing and a DJ. The family did most of the work too, bringing out food to the guests and making sure everyone had what they needed. The night was full of fun and special moments, including Abdias singing a song to Carolyn to close out the night.

I’ve never felt so taken care of at a wedding I worked. The family made sure I got dinner and drinks when the wedding party did. I must have been asked by 6 or 7 different family members if I needed anything throughout the night. I came to work and help however I could. It’s rare that so many people are concerned with what I might have needed. To the Nieves family, I just want to say thank you!

Ok, let’s get on to the real reason everyone’s here…the photos!

Quick shout out to Michael at Perfect Pair Weddings and Events for the venue decor.
